Congratulations to Jess and Simon for completing their cycle challenge and for raising £1,000 more than their target. It's not too late to sponsor them. Go on line and do it today, and add your own message of congratulations to these young people. Here is the link to their on line fundraising page... http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Jess-SimonPenny
and this is the reason why they did it....... My name is Jess and I am 16, 17 in April, my brother Simon is 13 and we plan to start fundrasing money for the Cornwall Air Ambulance. The Cornwall Air Ambulance is very important to us. The reason behind this is..... In June 2006 we were camping in Cornwall when I suddenly became unexpectantly ill. Unknown to me I had an Arteriovenous Malformation (abnormal group of blood vessels), which casued me to have a brain haemorrhage. I don't remember much about it, but I was airlifted by the Cornwall Air Ambulance off the campsite, taken to Truro Hospital where I was scanned. I was then intubated and then flown again by the Air Ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. From there I under went 6 and 1/2 hours of surgery. At Bristol they told my parents that I could have died if it had not have been for the availability and quick respose of the air ambulance. It is for this reason we are fundraising. We both like to push ourselves and we both enjoy a physical challenge. Our idea is to cycle the Devon coast to coast starting in Ilfracombe and ending in Plymouth. The cycle route is about 102 miles, we plan to start on the 10th of July in Ilfracombe, camp overnight half way, and end in Plymouth on the 11th. We are confident we will be able to do this successfully as we are both black belts in Taekwondo and therefore active and fit!
