Cornwall’s golf clubs have "putted" over £10k for the air ambulance so far this year....! Last year, the golfing hall of fame included Killow Golf Club, £750.00 Trehorne Golf Club £2,500 Trevose Golf Club (Ladies) £358 and £187 Lanhydrock Golf Club £3,300 Praa Sands Golf Club £215 Lostwithiel Golf Club £1,000 St Enodoc Golf Club (Ladies) £201 Launceston Golf Club £307 Radnor Golf and Leisure £335 Trehorne Golf Club £50 Trevose Golf Club charity day £1,450 These Golf Clubs have raised the money on a variety of ways including Presidents and Captains days, charity golf weekends, team events, ladies competitions, quiz evenings and raffles, together with donations. The Cornwall Air Ambulance has on occasions been called out to emergency calls in the past, including occasions when golf club members or their guests have been taken unexpectedly ill, perhaps with a serious medical condition, or even occasionally because of an accidental injury whilst playing. In Cornwall many of our golf courses are set in spectacular rural and coastal locations, which means they may be some distance from conventional emergency services. This is an example of a situation where an air ambulance helicopter may be much faster, and more able to gain close access to the person in need of help. Thank you to Tehidy Golf Club, who have already chosen Cornwall Air Ambulance to be their charity for the forthcoming year, also to Mullion Golf Club Ladies for 2009 season. Your continued support is absolutely vital and for many seasons the golf clubs in Cornwall have played a pivotal role in providing "grass roots" fundraising that is so important to a charity like Cornwall Air Ambulance. We are always pleased to arrange to visit your golf club on charity days, or on members evenings, to give a presentation about the work of the air ambulance, so call our charity office today if your golf club would like to join in. |
