Volunteer at Cornwall Air Ambulance

Join our Groundcrew

Time is precious. So are lives. Your time can help us save lives.

Our volunteers have come to be known as 'Groundcrew', signifying their absolutely vital role in keeping Cornwall Air Ambulance in the air. Whether it's raising money at events, keeping our retail stores stocked and open, or giving talks in the community, Groundcrew are an instrumental part of what we do.

Absolutely anybody can volunteer for Cornwall Air Ambulance. We know everyone's busy, so whether you have the occasional few hours to spare on an ad-hoc basis, or are looking for a regular volunteering role, we would be delighted to hear from you.

No previous experience is needed as we offer full training and support. If you're just setting out into the world of work, changing career, or struggling to find paid work, volunteering can be a great way to learn new skills and boost your CV. It's also a great way to make new friends and help the Cornish community.

Retail Volunteers

There's always plenty to do in our shops, with roles available to suit everybody – whether you like to be the face of the charity by talking to and serving customers, or would prefer to volunteer behind the scenes sorting and pricing donated items. Perhaps you see yourself as a budding Mary Portas and would enjoy arranging the window displays?

We have stores in Saltash, Wadebridge, Newquay, Helston, St Austell, Truro, Camborne and Penzance. Volunteering in our shops is a great way to gain experience and qualifications, meet new people, and have a lot of fun whilst helping keep Cornwall Air Ambulance flying.

Event support

We simply could not run the huge range of events we do without the support, energy and enthusiasm of our volunteers.

Every day is different – you might be manning a stall at the Royal Cornwall Show, selling raffle tickets at a Christmas Ball, or marshalling at one of our sporting events.

Volunteering at events with Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust is a brilliant way to meet new people and have great fun, attending some of Cornwall's top events for free whilst helping keep your air ambulance flying.

Office Volunteers

We also need volunteers to help us in our busy fundraising office, assisting with a wide range of administrative tasks, from preparing for events to helping maintain our supporter relations.

Working in the office is fun and varied - and perhaps the best part is that you are based in the same building as our helicopter and lifesaving crew, so you're as close to the action as it's possible to be!

Community Ambassadors

If you have experience in public speaking or giving presentations, you could help us by speaking to community groups, schools and clubs, or attending cheque presentations and community events on behalf of the charity.

We're particularly keen to hear from people in the far east and west of Cornwall, as it's often difficult for us to attend talks in these areas owing to travel costs.

Can I Volunteer On Board The Helicopter?

Sorry, but due to insurance and the exceptional amount of training required to work on or around the helicopter we cannot allow volunteering on the helicopter.

However all volunteers are invited to an induction event at our airbase where you can see the helicopter up close, meet the crew and find out all about Cornwall's air ambulance. If you're helping at the office or at events you will also have the chance to see the helicopter in its day-to-day role.
