Would you Know?
The Control
decision

Your approach to the situation should be quick but calm and controlled so that you are able to take in as much information as possible. Find out what resources are available to you if needed, decide what help you may require and if you have any first aid skills, say so when offering help. Call for the emergency services or, in necessary, get someone else to do so as quickly as possible. When phoning for assistance always try to give as much of the following information as possible;-
• GIVE YOUR NAME AND THE TELEPHONE NUMBER FROM WHERE YOU ARE CALLING FROM.
• GIVE THE EXACT LOCATION OF THE INCIDENT (ROAD NAME, NUMBER OF THE HOUSE).
• STATE ANY HELPFUL LANDMARKS NEARBY (LIBRARY, POST OFFICE,MONUMENT ETC).
• DESCRIBE THE TYPE OF INCIDENT AND THE NUMBER OF CASUALTIES.
• LET THEM KNOW THE NATURE OF INJURIES, HOW SERIOUS AND WHETHER ANYONE MAY BE TRAPPED).
• POINT OUT ANY HAZARDS WHICH MAY BE PRESENT OR LIKELY TO OCCUR (GAS, FIRE, CHEMICALS ETC).
• GIVE ANY INFORMATION YOU MAY HAVE OF THE PATIENT'S MEDICAL HISTORY.
• STAY ON THE LINE UNTIL ASKED TO HANG UP.
